Loose-weave black cloth with raw, frayed edges, already weathered when you pull it out of the pack. The weave is open enough to go gray where light passes through it. It hangs in deep scallops off a porch rail, a fence line, or the branches over the walkway. Static prop — no cord, no motor, nothing to plug in.

Why it holds up
The layer the street reads first
The open weave breaks up whatever light is already on the house and lays a ragged shadow behind it. From the sidewalk it stops looking like fabric and starts looking like the dark edge of the plot.

Questions people ask
How do I hang it?
Staple it to wood, zip-tie it to a fence rail, or hook it into the eaves. Cloth ships with no stakes and no hardware — the fastener is whatever the surface takes.
Does it come weathered, or do I age it myself?
It arrives weathered. The open weave and the raw, frayed edges are already in the cloth, so there is no dry-brushing and no tea-staining before it goes up.
What holds it up when the wind picks up?
The fastener, not the cloth. Fix the top edge every foot or so instead of only at the corners, and let the bottom hang free so wind passes through the weave.
Can I cut it?
Yes. It tears and cuts to length and the edge stays ragged, which is the look. Nothing needs hemming.
Does it light up?
No. There is no cord, no motor and no battery. Put a light you already have behind it and the weave reads as haze instead of a flat black sheet.
How does it store?
Shake it out over the bin, fold it back to the size it shipped in, and it goes flat in a tote until next October.
