Questions people ask

Does it actually move by itself?

It does. A sensor picks up sound or a touch, and the broom leans and sways on its own — the handle is bendable, so the whole length moves rather than the base sliding around. It settles again when things go quiet.

How does it stay standing?

There are small silicone feet under the straw, and they are what keep it upright while it moves. Put it on a flat, hard floor — tile, hardwood, laminate, a concrete porch. On thick carpet or gravel it has nothing to push against and will barely stir.

What does it need to run?

Two AA batteries, and they are not in the box. Nothing to plug in, nothing to assemble, no tools — put the batteries in and stand it up.

How tall is it, really?

Thirty-five inches tall and about eight across at the widest part of the straw. That is roughly waist height on an adult, which makes it a doorway, porch or corner piece rather than something you plant in the middle of a lawn.

Can I turn the noise off?

Yes — there is an on/off switch on the piece. It cuts the whole thing, sound and movement together, so if it is going off at the cat at two in the morning you can flip it before bed and it stays quiet.

Can it go outside?

It is made for indoors and out, and a covered porch or an entryway is where it does best — that is where it gets the footfall that sets it off, and where the floor is flat enough for it to work. Bring it in out of heavy weather.

What are the dark marks on the straw?

They are printed on at the factory, not damage. Up close the straw carries a dark spatter across it, and that detail is a lot of what keeps it from reading like a plain craft-store broom once the light is on.

Do the lights only come from the bottom?

No — a strand runs the full length of the handle as well as through the straw, so the whole shape reads at night instead of just a glow at the floor. Green, amber or violet, depending on which one you pick.
