The beam only exists where there is something for it to catch, so this goes in a yard that already has a fog layer. Aimed low across the grass it draws a flat green line through the bank, and the graveyard suddenly has a floor.

No. It is a beam effect, not a fogger. It needs a fog layer from a fog machine to land on, and that is what makes the layer visible from the street.
